For a practical Thai pantry starter list, choose one dinner first: green curry, Pad Thai or chicken rice. Buy the corresponding seasoning pack from Sawasdeal and its fresh ingredients locally. The three meal plans below separate packet contents, extra groceries and equipment so you do not buy ingredients without a cooking plan.

Which Thai pantry packs should you buy first?

Three meal starters
Meal Pack to buy Method
Green curry One Lobo Green Curry Paste 50 g packet. Green-curry guide
Pad Thai One Lobo Pad Thai Sauce 120 g packet. Pad Thai guide
Chicken rice One Lobo Thai Chicken Rice Set 120 g. Chicken-rice guide

These packs provide seasoning, sauce or the separate components of the chicken-rice set. The rice, noodles, meat and fresh vegetables below are additional purchases.

What fresh ingredients do you need for each meal?

Buy locally for each meal
Meal Quantified ingredients Other additions
Green curry 250 g sliced chicken or beef; 240 ml coconut milk; 240 ml water. Eggplant, basil, makrut lime leaves and chilli; fish sauce to taste. Rice to serve if wanted.
Pad Thai 120 g dry rice noodles or 150–200 g fresh noodles; 100 g shrimp; 100 g firm tofu; 1 egg; 100 g bean sprouts; 3 chive stalks; 3 tbsp vegetable oil. Water as needed while stir-frying. Prepare dry noodles according to their own pack.
Chicken rice 200 g uncooked rice; 250–300 g chicken breast or thigh; 400 ml hot water for the separate soup sachet. Water for cooking the rice: use the appropriate amount for your rice and cooker, as Lobo directs.

The quantities follow the linked Lobo methods, rather than a single formula for all Thai food. If you use chicken for both green curry and chicken rice, the two recipes require 500–550 g chicken in total. Keep each recipe’s portion separate when preparing.

Equipment and a sensible first meal

  • Green curry: a pan, knife and measuring jug. Choose it if you already have coconut milk and curry vegetables.
  • Pad Thai: a wok or large frying pan and a separate container for noodle preparation. Set out every ingredient before heating the pan.
  • Chicken rice: a rice cooker and a jug for preparing the soup. It offers separate rice seasoning, dipping sauce and soup mix.

Check the packs before substitutions

Green curry paste contains shrimp. The Pad Thai product contains peanut and fish; shrimp and egg are also added in the manufacturer recipe. The chicken-rice set lists soybean in its rice seasoning, soybean and wheat in its dipping sauce, and soybean, wheat and sulphites in its soup mix.

Choosing vegetable or tofu additions does not remove allergens already in a seasoning pack. Review the full label, including possible cross-contact warnings, before selecting a meal for anyone with dietary restrictions.
