Import Guide: Indonesia
Last reviewed: 24 September 2026. This is a practical starting guide for an online order shipped from Thailand to Indonesia. It is not an exhaustive legal opinion or a guarantee that any product will clear customs.
Not available at checkout yet. Sawasdeal's Indonesia Market is Draft. A country appearing in an EMS World service list does not establish that every product can be imported or that a shipping rate is available.
Customs and restricted goods
Indonesia applies customs rules and category-specific prohibition or restriction controls (lartas) to incoming parcels. Food, cosmetics, medicines and dangerous goods may need approval from the relevant authority.
Checks before a product can be offered
- Food and agricultural goods: verify full ingredients, animal origin, additives, allergens, shelf stability, packaging, destination-language labels, and any food-importer, health-certificate, plant-health or prior-approval requirement. Do not infer clearance from a personal traveller allowance.
- Cosmetics, herbal products, supplements and medicines: check the destination's classification, permitted ingredients and claims, registration or notification, importer or responsible-person obligations, and label rules.
- Other goods: verify product-safety rules and restrictions on plants, wood, wildlife, batteries, liquids, aerosols, tobacco, alcohol, weapons, counterfeit goods and cultural objects. The carrier's dangerous-goods rules are a separate check.
- Commercial order: declare the actual item, quantity, origin and value. A paid store purchase is not declared as a gift.
Official starting points
- Directorate General of Customs and Excise: incoming parcels
- Soekarno-Hatta Customs: parcel restrictions
